OK!! so I did't dream up all of the design for the Christmas Cake. The idea was taken from the December issue of GoodFood Magazine and the gold stars were used after seeing Nigella's Christmas! The stars can be purchased from www.Jane-Asher.co.uk

This looks fantastic - so effective! Did you punch out the filled stars once the icing was on the cake? if so, any tips??

It tells you on the link how to punch out the stars. You do this immediately after you have iced the cake. Press the star cutter in but not too deeply, just enough to remove the star shaped piece of icing. I wouldn't get too bothered about it being precise because the beauty of this cake is that if you happen to cut a bit too deeply you are going to fill in the shapes with gold balls anyway. Once you get going you will find it's big rewards for little effort and I was really pleased with it.

As you can see I just used my imagination and altered the design a little.

I'm glad you admitted that you copied the idea from Good Food Magazine as I created this effect a couple of years ago myself. Looks very effective.
